Apex Men’s Lacrosse in Charlotte Saturday for Champions Challenge

The Apex Men’s Lacrosse team will travel to Charlotte this weekend for the 3rd Annual Champions Challenge benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.  Each year StickWithUs invites the Men’s and Women’s State Champions and Runners-up for both public and private schools to participate in this great day of lacrosse.
This year our 2015 4A Champion Cougars are matched up against the 2015 3A Runner-up Marvin Ridge. This match is scheduled for this Saturday, April 2nd at 6PM at Charlotte Catholic HS (rain site is Ardrey Kell HS).
The Apex Men’s Lacrosse team is once again making a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project with money raised by the players mostly through sponsorship’s earned for competing in the Apex Turkey Trot last November. The team is honored to make a donation of $3,700 this year to the Wounded Warrior Project.  As a whole, this event expects to raise over $20,000 for this worthy cause.
As participants in one of the two marquee games Saturday, the Cougars (7-0/5-0) will be wearing custom uniforms in Apex colors and with a US Army theme that includes the players name and numbers.  The players will be able to keep their jersey as a memento of the competition.
The team had two practices Wednesday as well as team dinner at Anna’s Pizza.  After a morning practice Thursday the team will relax a bit at their annual bowling tournament that afternoon.  Final practice and preparations are Friday before heading to Charlotte via charter bus on Saturday. Come on over to Charlotte for a great afternoon of lacrosse or tune into TWC for one of the replays.
Good Luck Cougars!

More on the event:

Coach Lantzy from Durham, NC wrote on March 8, 2016 on 3:18 pm:

Seventh Annual King of the Spring Face-Off Classic set for March 10-13, 2016, in Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill, N.C.
Top high school lacrosse teams to support efforts of the Vs. Cancer Foundation
DURHAM, N.C. – The national high school lacrosse spotlight will turn to the Triangle area of North Carolina once again this spring as nearly 30 of the nation’s top men’s and women’s high school lacrosse teams will compete in the seventh annual Brine King of the Spring Face-Off Classic, scheduled for March 10-13, 2016, in the Triangle area of North Carolina. Hosting this year’s tournament are Durham Academy and Cardinal Gibbons High School. Complete game schedule can be found atwww.kingofspringlax.com .
“The King of the Spring has emerged as a one-of-a-kind event in the high school lacrosse community and has quickly become an annual destination for some of the best programs in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast,” said tournament director and Durham Academy boys lacrosse coach Jon Lantzy. “As coaches and educators, we are always looking for meaningful opportunities to expose our student-athletes to the true meaning of service. We will once again use this weekend as on opportunity for not only great competition on the field, but a chance to inspire our student-athletes to use their many talents to make their communities a better place.”
This year’s tournament supports the efforts of the Vs. Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to cure childhood cancer by directing proceeds to both national-level research efforts and local pediatric cancer hospitals for patient care. Learn more about this Raleigh-based organization at www.vs-cancer.org.
“On behalf of the Vs. Cancer Foundation, we are humbled and thrilled to be partnering with Durham Academy and the King of the Spring Face-Off Classic, as we have a real and tangible opportunity to help change outcomes for children battling cancer right here in North Carolina,” said Chase Jones, founder and CEO of the Vs. Cancer Foundation. “As a cancer survivor, personally, I have been on the receiving end of these funds that are raised, and we are ecstatic to now help the next child beat cancer, right here in the Triangle.”
Lantzy is grateful to have the Vs. Cancer Foundation as a King of the Spring partner.
“Chase and the Vs. Cancer Foundation are doing wonderful things, not only in the Triangle but across the country, helping so many kids and families,” he said. “The first time I met Chase, it took about a second to see the amount to passion he has for this cause. Chase is an athlete and a cancer survivor — he understands the impact that team sports has on young adults and their communities. The Vs. Cancer Foundation allows young student-athletes to use their love of sports to support such an important cause, and we are thrilled to have them as a partner for this year’s event.”
In addition to the 30 high school boys and girls teams that will compete, the event will spotlight the Duke v. Louisville women’s game, set for Saturday, March 12.
In all, the 30 teams participating in the King of the Spring tournament will compete in 28 games on fields around the Triangle over the course of four days. Joining hosts DA and Cardinal Gibbons in sponsoring the event are Brine Lacrosse, Triangle Orthopedic Associates, Fusion Lacrosse and Lacrosse.com.
